Jacqueline Fernandez was born in Manama and raised by a mixed-ethnic, multiracial family. Jacqueline's father Elroy is Sri Lankan (Catholic Sinhalese) and her mother, Kim, a Malaysian. She has two younger brothers and a older sister. The family relocated to Bahrain during the 1980s because of the Lankan turmoil and she was raised in Bahrain. The scholarship she received allowed her to attend an undergraduate program at the University of Sydney in Sydney Australia after she had completed her schooling in Bahrain. In order to further her interest in the world of languages, cultures and languages, she joined the Berlitz language schools in which she could study Spanish and also improve her French as well as Arabic. She was also crowned Miss Sri Lanka 2006 for Miss Universe 2006 on March 6, 2006 and participated in Miss Universe 2006. In 2006, she was awarded she won the Miss Sri Lanka title. Then, she stepped into television to host an interview show on Sri Lankan businesses named Lanka Business Report. Padukone's father was a badminton player Prakash Padukone. Padukone has had a childhood in Copenhagen as well as Bangalore. In her teens, she played badminton in national level championships but left her profession in sports in order to be a fashion model. Padukone comes from Mangalore and her mother tongue is Konkani. Her ancestors come from the village Padukone in Kundapura Taluk, in the Udupi district of Karnataka state in India. Prakash Padukone is her father and was a badminton player who has international acclaim. Her mother is an agent of travel.
